Other information: Em to America as Supercargo of the Prince Maurice, a ship of the Dutch West Indian Co., embarking from Amsterdam 21 Dec 1656 for New Castle, DE [1]. He worked as a representative of the City of Amsterdam, which asserted claims over the area [1]. He became clerk, sheriff, Commissary General, and member of the Council of New Castle [1]. He was second in command of the city fort when the English invaded in 1664 [1]. They seized his estate in the invasion [1]. A Roman Catholic, he rem at this time to MD, and in 1667 settled in St. Marys City, purchasing 50 acres [1]. When the city was incorporated, he was one of the six aldermen [1]. Gerret van Swearigen and his wife nat April 1669 [1] He served as mayor of SMC [1]. Owned a large inn which served as private club for the legislature until the capital moved to Annapolis in 1695 [1].
