ELDER, LEVI, was born 1825 in Perry county. He is a son of  Robert Elder and Susannah (Haines), who came to Ohio in 1818. Robert died in 1867, in his eighty-first year, and Susannah followed him November 20, 1881, in her eighty-ninth year. Their children were Sarah Kelsey, Joel, Mary Middaugh, Levi,Asbury, Charlotte Durrh, Simeon and Cyrus, who was last heard from in Arkansas some seven years since. The children of Levi and his wife, who was Miss Amy R. Rutherford, are Artamesa, Samantha Ellen, and Eva May. Their two sons died of diptheria. His daughter Artamesa is married to Mr. George W. Zartman. Levi never had a lawsuit, never was a juryman, and was but twice called as a witness, and is opposed to capital punishment. The family is of Scotch-German descent, including Robert and his two brothers, William and John, who came with Robert to Ohio. The Elder family, now extensive, is generally distinguished for its thrift, its Protestant piety, its industry, and its success in business life. Levi has added to the one hundred and seventy-three ancestral acres, where he resides, one hundred and sixty acres in Jackson township, and pays nearly $100 of State taxes annually.

• Jabez, son of Robert and Susannah Elder - died June 29, 1825, aged 1 year, 6 months and 5 days.
• Elicah, son of Robert and Susannah Elder - died October 1, 1821, aged 6 years, 5 months and 3 days.
• Susannah, daughter of Joel and Elizaan Elder - died December 6, 1845, aged 4 years.
• Sarah, wife of Own Elder - died January 8, 1824, aged 41 years, 10 months and 8 days.
• Mary, wife of John Elder (bottom missing--very old tombstone)
• Manervia C., daughter of Sarah Elder - died February 1, 1857, aged 1 year, 3 months and 10 days.
• Amy R. Elder - died March 17, 1909, aged 76 years and 25 days.
• Levi Elder - died October 12, 1895, aged 71 years, 4 months and 21 days. (Civil War Soldier)
• (Casper) son of Levi and Amy R. Elder, died October 30, 1861, aged (7) years, 7 months and 2 days.
• Willie McLellan, son of Levi and Amy Elder - died October 17, 1864, aged 3 years, 2 months and 17 days.
• Susan, wife of Robert Elder - died November 20, 1881, aged 88 years.
• Robert Eider - died February 15, 1866, aged 75 years, 11 months, 11 days.
