Writing on the back of a photo, I think it came from a conversation Roberta Thomas had with Vera Belle:
Sarah  Alma McFarland (Sallie) was born and raised in Austin Texas. She made her own wedding dress. The McFarlands were musical. Danced the Irish jig. One of the McFarlands played the violin, another the banjo.  She met Perry in Crowley, LA. She lived to be 83 years old. Buried in League City Texas.

Fliers told of rice farming in the area causing them to move.

Perry lived to be 86 years old.

Perry J. Johnson and Sarah A. McFarland were married September 4, 1899 in Crowley, Louisiana.

Perry was born in Garden grove, Decatur county, iowa on August 6, 1878. Moved from Iowa to Crowley, Louisiana. 6th grade eduaction. Then business college. First rice farm near crowley. Next had bicycle shop at Abberville, Louisianan. Next had rice farm at Elton - large farm - two colored families lived on farm. Crop losses caused farm to fail. Operated first ice and light plant in Elton until Leo finished high school. Built service station which Leo operated while Perry surveyed. Home burned and Perry sold service station. Perry moved to Galveston in 1931 and worked in building trade with his brother, Jesse. Grandma managed Crystal Palace Hotel (Apts). Moved to Daisetta and built dad's (leo) service station in 1939. Worked in Beaumont at ship yards with dad (Leo) during world war II.

Sarah A. Mcfarland was born in Burnet, Texas in 1882. Died in League City, Texas in 1967. McFarland family moved from Burnet, Texas to Crowley, Louisiana. Leo says he was (Sally's father) tending bar in Crowley until his death.

Bill Thomas notes that Sarah McFarland, played piano for silent movies. 
Bill Thomas states that the husband of Kitty McFarland (last seen in Amarillo) did research on the McFarland name. There are 12 McFarlands in Amarillo.

There was a Family reunion September 1999 in which most of the grandchildren of Perry and Sarah Johnson attended.  A nice book was produced from/for this reunion. Most of the info on the GGrandchildern of Perry and Sarah located in the pages below came from that book.  -SJT
